St Mary Queen of Heaven, Georges Hall – Playground

OHD was engaged in 2013 and 2014 to deliver a playground & landscape encapsulation project following identification of hazardous materials within the playground. The project was successfully delivered in consultation with a consultant hygienist.

In 2021 and 2022 OHD was re-engaged to rectify the damaged encapsulation barrier, rectify non-conformances, reduce future maintenance, improve circulation paths, resolve stormwater issues, replace dilapidated finishes, and generally develop and embellish the landscape and playground further.

OHD undertook a design development phase including a robust reverse brief process. A specialist consulting team was engaged and documents fully co-ordinated. Careful design consideration was required to provide capping depths, rectify drainage issues all whilst reducing impacts to the root zone of the large existing trees.

OHD was then engaged to call tenders, undertake tender assessment and provide contract administration and post construction services.

The final outcome is an expansive natural space, complete with robust synthetic surfaces, playground equipment and horticultural learning opportunities.
