Located in the heart of Woollahra and close to the Bondi Junction shopping precinct, this residence sits within the Heritage Conservation Area of the Woollahra, Grafton Precinct. The project focused on revitalising an existing two‑storey terrace and reimagining the rear of the home to better suit the needs of a growing family.
Our approach carefully preserved the heritage character of the original terrace while introducing a contemporary rear addition that feels fresh and modern without overshadowing the home’s historic charm. At ground level, a new light‑filled living space enjoys a north‑easterly aspect and opens directly to the outdoor entertaining area, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor lifestyle.
The form of the rear extension has been thoughtfully composed using a mix of horizontal cladding, vertical rendered elements, and strategic door and window placements that break up the massing and add visual interest. Privacy between neighbouring properties is enhanced through the use of obscure glazing.
Materials and finishes were selected to complement the existing terrace while giving the new works a refined, contemporary identity. The result is a home that celebrates its heritage roots while offering modern comfort, functionality, and style.
