Catalina Community Centre provides a central hub within the larger community, offering a series of spaces which encourage socialisation between residents as well as providing recreational and essential services.
The single storey form is arranged around a central court, offering increased connectivity between spaces, as well as with the surrounding landscape. This is further strengthened by the passive ventilation system which encourages minimal use of artificial heating and cooling, allowing greater interaction with external spaces.
The circulation zones separate a series of pavilions which provide an implied level of discretion for private spaces, while encouraging greater interaction within public spaces. These arterial circulation zones filter through the landscape from several points on surrounding streets, converging in a communal zone to bring the community together before filtering back to the landscape offering additional incidental opportunities for interaction and connectivity.
