The administration building at St Joseph’s Charlestown has recently been completed. The existing building was remodeled internally to improve the relationship of the reception area, executive offices and the staff areas.Separate entry foyers were provided for students and the general public. Each executive office features a custom workstation and full height storage cupboards. New ancillary spaces such as toilets, kitchenette, staff annex and a sick bay were included in the fit out.The new library was designed to provide a modern and contemporary library facility that would encourage learning and engage the imagination of the students. The library sits comfortably within the existing school campus and forms the centre piece of a cluster of classrooms. Its central location, at the intersection of the two main pedestrian pathways through the school reinforces the importance of the library in the life of the school.The shape of the building responds to the built and natural features of the site – following the contours of the land and nestling between significant trees. Visually stimulating colours have been selected that relate to the colours found in the flowers, tree barks and soil of the bush land setting.
