Holmes Residence, Woollahra

The design intent was to upgrade and refurbish the existing two-storey terrace while rationalising and developing the rear of the house to provide a reasonable standard of accommodation for a growing family. The heritage significance of the existing terrace building has been carefully preserved while the proposed construction of the rear secondary building form has been designed with contemporary design elements that are sympathetic to the existing architectural style. A new living space, which enjoys a north easterly aspect, has been created at ground floor level with direct access to the rear outdoor living area so as to reflect modern living customs. The mass of the rear addition is broken down through the careful use and juxtaposition of horizontal cladding elements, vertical rendered wall sections and new door and window placements.
