Hamlyn Terrace Community Centre

The Master Plan for the Hamlyn Terrace Community Centre and Sporting Facilities involved the integration of a number of different sporting and community facilities on a 5 hectare site. Consideration of public safety, vandal resistant materials and finishes, bushfire and flooding issues were essential to this project. The Sporting Facilities include two soccer fields (overlayed with cricket and AFL fields), 3 multipurpose courts, 2 petanque courts and cricket practice nets, as well as a shared cycle and pedestrian track. A rainwater harvesting system collects stormwater run-off from car parks and the oval and directs it to underground tanks for reuse in oval irrigation. This project includes a new Community Centre and Amenities Building co-located with new Sporting facilities. The Community Centre features a large activity room and flexible meeting spaces with storage for various community groups. The activity room opens to a children’s play area on the northern side of the building. The centre also features a hub style workspace with hotdesks for community groups. The new Amenities Building provides public toilets, sports team and official change facilities, equipment storage and a kiosk overlooking the fields. Material selection and vandal resistance were significant considerations to be balanced against the desired aesthetics of the building
